Visit the Landes: places not to be missed during your stay
The Landes department is one of the most popular tourist destinations. It has a charming appearance and some impressive areas that you can visit during a stay in the region. Here are a few places not to be missed on your next vacation.
The Contemporary Art Forest
Be sure to explore this artistic forest during your visit to the Landes. Numerous visual artists have taken inspiration from this forest and installed impressive monumental works here.
In the Contemporary Art Forest, you’ll find over 20 works of art. These refer to the history and landscape of the Landes de Gascogne. Some of these works can be accessed directly from one of the forest’s roads or villages. Other works of art are located in the middle of the Contemporary Art Forest and are indicated by orange signs.
Lake Hossegor
The Lac d’Hossegor is one of the best places you can visit in the heart of the Landes department. The lake is subject to the action of the tides, which cause perpetual movements within it. To get the most out of this charming lake, we recommend a 7.5 km hike up the surrounding mountain.
This way, you can visit not only the entire perimeter, but also the canal. You’ll also find oyster huts where you can pause for a moment to sample some oysters.
Navarrosse beach
Navarosse beach is located in Biscarrosse Lac. It’s an idyllic spot, much loved by tourists. There’s a lot to discover here. For example, you’ll find pine trees, crystal-clear water and white sand. You’ll also see many other features that will make you feel like you’re in the Caribbean.
Le ponton d’Azur
The Ponton d’Azur is little known to the general public in the Landes region, but its appearance is quite seductive. The pontoon is in fact a magnificent 50 m walkway built on Lake Soustons. As well as being an impressive sight, you can also admire its surroundings.
These include a small tree and a magnificent lake. You’ll also find a bench where you can rest and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings.
