What do you need to know about Biscarrosse pond?

The Etang de Biscarrosse is one of the largest lakes in the Landes region. It lies between two of the commune’s lakes: Lac de Cazaux et de Sanguinet and Lac de Biscarrosse et de Parentis. It covers an area of over 50 hectares, with a length of 1.5 km and a width of 500 m. Associated with the marsh, it is the subject of a type 1 ZNIEFF inventory. Since 1977, it has been listed as a northern Landes pond and a Natura 2000 site. It is a destination with a strong tourist influence.

Etang de Biscarrosse is rich in biodiversity (pines, forests, dunes, parks, gardens, natural sites…). A variety of species can be found here, even those on the verge of extinction. Threatened plant species are also found here. Animal species include amphibians and freshwater fish. Among the animal species are some very rare birds. It is a kind ofshelter for many animal species. Between migration, reproduction and wintering, many birds make their nests here.

What to do at Etang de Biscarrosse?

The Lac de Biscarrosse and Lac de Cazaux waterways are ideal for a wide range of water sports. Rich in fish, it is ideal for fishing. Its calm waters are also ideal for activities such as swimming, windsurfing and water skiing. What’s more, the lake is less than 1 metre deep for 100 metres, making it particularly suitable for young children. Catamarans, canoes and pedalos are also available.
