Swimming at Lac de Biscarrosse

With its crystal-clear waters and quiet, peaceful setting, Biscarrosse is the ideal place for long swims and walks along the lake and the Cazaux-Sanguinet pond.

Lake presentation

Located in south-western France, on the Aquitaine coast, the Lac de la Ville de Biscarrosse is one of the great Landes lakes. Also known as Lac du Sud, it lies between the communes of Biscarrosse to the north, Parentis-en-Born to the east and Sainte-Eulalie-en-Born and Gastes to the south. Famous for its tranquility, peace and pine trees, it covers an area of 3,400 hectares. It is linked to the Lac de Cazaux-Sanguinet by the Landes department canal, otherwise known as the Canal de Navarosse.

Lac de Biscarrosse: an ideal natural gem

Close to the La Rive campsite, the lake attracts keen swimmers and water sports enthusiasts (sailing, water-skiing…) with its clear, fresh waters and sunny beaches. The expanse of greenery surrounding the lake adds to its charm, making it a little paradise on earth. With a medium depth, the lake is a safe place for everyone, children and adults alike. Thanks to bright sunshine, especially in summer, the water quality is good, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 28 degrees. The fine sandy beaches are also ideal for long sunbaths. The lake’s proximity to the ocean is a major advantage, allowing bathers to switch from the calm waters of the lake to the tumultuous waves of the ocean, if they so wish.

Various activities on and around the lake

In addition to swimming, the lake offers a wide range of other water sports: canoeing, fishing, buoyancy, sailing, boating, paddling, water-skiing, etc. The beaches around the lake also offer a variety of sporting and non-sporting activities, including parasailing, pedal boats, water slides and an aquapark. You can picnic with your children or as a couple, in the shade of the trees, forest and pines.

You can also visit the Arcachon basin, famous for its Dune du Pilat. Located at the southern entrance to the Arcachon Basin, the Dune du Pilat stretches 616 m from west to east and contains around 550 million cubic meters of sand, in the town of Pyla-sur-mer near Arcachon, in the heart of the Landes de Gascogne.
