What are the festivities in Biscarrosse on August 15?

Biscarrosse is located in the Landes region of south-western France, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, and is famous for its Bisca Grands Lacs: Biscarrosse-Parentis and Sanguinet. Every year on August 15, we celebrate the Feast of the Sea. All day long, tens of thousands of Biscarrossers take part in the festivities.

Fête de la Mer celebrations on August 15 in Biscarrosse

The “Red Spirit” cuvée celebrates the English boats of the same name, which once sailed the Adour. The Landais would try to trap them by lighting fires on the beach during ebb tides to provoke them to run aground. The event kicks off with the desilting of the cuvée at Plage Sud, followed by a procession from the Church to the Esplanade. A mass and various events are planned for the occasion. Afterwards, a floral wreath is presented to the surfers, marking a symbolic moment. A complimentary aperitif kicks off the festivities, followed by a tasting and sale of the “Red Spirit” cuvée. To round off the event, a meal featuring local produce is served, providing an opportunity to savour the region’s culinary riches. The day is a real celebration of local heritage and Landes culture, bringing locals and visitors together in a convivial atmosphere.

August 15 ball and fireworks at Biscarrosse Plage

After the various tastings, the town of Biscarrosse kicks off with the big August 15 ball. It takes place on the esplanade des plages from 9 p.m. under the falling stars. Participants can then dance to the music in the open air. This festive event is an ideal opportunity for locals and holidaymakers alike to get together in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

From 11 p.m., enjoy the beautiful fireworks display under the night-time stars. Colorful lights illuminate the sky, offering a dazzling spectacle that amazes young and old alike. Flashes of light reflect off the waves, creating a unique fairytale atmosphere.

Then get back into the swing of things and dance the night away until 1am. The musicians maintain a dynamic, festive atmosphere, playing a variety of songs from classics to modern hits. It’s a night for forgetting worries, dancing and laughing, taking full advantage of Biscarrosse’s mild summer evenings.
