Where is the airfield in Biscarrosse?

If you’re a stranger to Biscarrosse, you’re probably not familiar with the area. Knowing where to find the Biscarrosse airfield in the Landes region can be a real challenge. In this article, we’d like to introduce you to this place right next to the Atlantic Ocean.

Location and description of Aérodrome des Grands Lacs de Biscarrosse

The Aérodrome des Grands Lacs is located in the south-east of Biscarrosse, more precisely on Rue Costes et Bellonte at 40600.

It covers almost 347 hectares. What could be more natural, since it includes an airfield dedicated to public traffic and a limited-use water aerodrome.

The airfield

A total of three runways are used for daily flights. The first track is asphalted. It runs east-west over a length of 800 metres and a width of 20 metres. Equipped with day and night beacons and an approach plan indicator, it guarantees the success of every takeoff and landing.

The second is a natural grass pitch running east-west. It is 1,300 metres long and 60 metres wide. Only gliders have access.

The third and last is a 700-metre-long, 60-metre-wide track running south-north. It serves as a take-off and landing area for aircraft.

The water aerodrome

The hydroaerodrome is designed on the Biscarrosse-Parentis lake.

What flying activities are authorized?

The Aéroclub des Grands Lacs in the Landes region of France is open to all, subject to certain conditions. Several associations use them for light aviation and model aircraft.

Light aviation

Light aviation refers to all aerial activities carried out within the framework of tourism, sport and leisure. As such, aircraft or gliding. Gliding is performed using an aerodyne or glider. This flying activity relies on the force of updrafts alone. It’s all about letting yourself be propelled by the wind. An airplane is actually an aerodyne, i.e. a heavier-than-air craft driven by a propeller.

Aeromodelling

Aeromodeling is the practice of flying and piloting model airplanes.

In addition to these activities, it also serves as a learning environment for those who want to try their hand at flying.

Grab your cameras and head for the Grands Lacs aeroclub for a view of Biscarrosse-Parentis.
